Measure before you fix
The fix: ventilation + filtration
Ventilate to clear CO2 and moisture; filter to remove particles. A MERV-13 purifier handles the particle load (~93 per cent of airborne particles); add activated carbon for odours and VOCs. Together with sensible ventilation and humidity control, that covers the great majority of indoor air problems.
