How sizing actually works: clean-air delivery vs room size
Here is the principle without the jargon. Particle filters do nothing for smells, because odours are gases, not particles — they slip straight through MERV-13. Because the enclosure is sealed and you choose fans for silence, a well-built unit runs near-silent while moving serious air — the enthusiast's version of the same clean-air principle every other kit uses. Its clean-air delivery and room coverage depend on the fans you fit, so it rewards a bit of planning, but for a satisfying, low-cost, whisper-quiet build it is hard to beat.
