Air purifiers for large rooms

Large rooms are where cheap purifiers quietly fail. A unit sized for a bedroom will run flat out in a big lounge and never quite win. The fix is airflow — enough clean-air delivery to turn the whole volume over several times an hour.

Do the volume maths

High ceilings and open doorways

Both add effective volume. Period rooms with 3 m ceilings, or spaces open to a stairwell, should be treated as larger than their footprint suggests — size up accordingly.

One big unit or two smaller?

Usually one high-airflow unit beats two small ones: fewer filters to buy, less noise, simpler placement. Only very long or L-shaped rooms benefit from a second unit to reach a dead zone.

Yes — ceiling height adds air volume. A 3 m ceiling adds roughly 25% more air to clean versus a standard 2.4 m ceiling, so size up.

Is one big purifier better than two small ones?
